BE A MENTOR
Once you've decided to become a mentor you'll complete an application, an in-person interview, and Live Scan fingerprinting. After completion, you will be notified of the date of your introductory training session. During this training session we will review rules, expectations, best practices on scheduling visits, and what to expect. Training sessions will be led by our Program Director and Community Partner, Juli Fraga, Psy.D. At each training mentors will receive training and adoption material which is intended to make the best of the time you spend with your adoptee.
Once mentors have chosen their adoptee, AMP requires mentors to coordinate an introductory meeting with at least one of the child's parents. The meeting can be as short as a coffee with brief introductions. The objective of the meeting is to for the mentor to familiarize themself with their adoptee, get to know their parents, and figure out best ways of communicating.
Our Program Director checks-in with mentors monthly for feedback, progress, and to answer questions. In addition, mentors are required to attend ongoing quarterly training sessions. Quarterly trainings, including dinner, will be organized and hosted by AMP.

2. INTERVIEWS
AMP will contact you to set up an in-person interview.
3. LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING
Visit http://ag.ca.gov/fingerprints/publications/contact.htm for the nearest fingerprinting location. Some locations require an appointment and may not take cash or credit cards. We recommend you call before you go. Fingerprints should be $35. Each appointment takes about 5-10 minutes.
Please keep your receipt and submit it to Adoptee Mentor Program for reimbursement (send to P.O. Box 641645, San Francisco, CA 94164), or if you’d like you can deduct it on your tax return next year, along with any other costs you incur as part of Adoptee Mentor Program or any other non profit.
4. TRAININGS
All mentors are required to take part in monthly feedback phone calls as well as attend quarterly trainings. Training and dinner will be organized and hosted by AMP. This will give mentors an opportunity to connect with other adult adoptees, share experiences, ask questions, and continue trainings with volunteer psychologist, Juli Fraga, Psy.D.
